Letters of Elder Anatoly of Optina

Author: Anatoly Zertsalov
Format: Softcover
Pages: 308

Description:
This collection of letters by Elder Anatoly of Optina (†1894) offers a rich treasury of Orthodox spiritual guidance. Written to nuns from convents near Optina Monastery, these letters address a wide range of trials, temptations, sins, struggles, and spiritual concerns.

With humility, love, and deep pastoral wisdom, Elder Anatoly provides practical yet challenging advice on how to resist temptation, endure tribulation, cultivate repentance, and grow in the Christian life. At times gentle and consoling, and at other times firm and corrective, his words remain powerful examples of true spiritual direction.

Although originally written to the nuns of his own time, these letters speak just as clearly to Christians today who are seeking encouragement, discipline, humility, and guidance on the path to salvation.

Fr. Anatoly was one of the most revered monks and spiritual fathers of Optina Monastery in Kaluga Province, south of Moscow, during its spiritual flourishing in the late nineteenth century.

A deeply valuable book for readers interested in Orthodox spirituality, monastic wisdom, spiritual struggle, repentance, and the guidance of the great Optina Elders.
