Allied Masonic Degrees (AMD) – Grand Collarette
The Grand Collarette of the Allied Masonic Degrees (AMD) is an emblem of honor, dignity, and distinction, worn exclusively by Grand Officers, Past Grand Officers, and recipients of certain Grand Council honors. It is a formal yet elegant piece of regalia that communicates the wearer’s service and authority at Grand level.
Design & Construction
Shape & Style:
The Grand Collarette is designed in a semi-circular or looped “V” form, intended to drape neatly around the neck and rest gracefully on the chest. It is shorter and narrower than a full Grand Officer collar, providing a distinguished but understated profile that emphasizes both rank and decorum.
Material:
Crafted from high-quality moiré silk ribbon, the Grand Collarette features a luxurious, watermarked texture, lending it both visual interest and ceremonial gravitas.
Width:
Typically narrower than standard collars, measuring around 1.75 to 2 inches (45–50 mm) wide, providing a comfortable yet prominent display appropriate for formal wear.
Color Scheme:
Principal Color:
The primary color is a deep and vibrant emerald green, the signature hue of the Allied Masonic Degrees, symbolizing growth, wisdom, and renewal—qualities that reflect the ethos of AMD.
Edge Trim:
The edges of the Grand Collarette are finely finished with a rich gold braid or lace, denoting Grand status. The gold trimming adds a regal contrast to the green, emphasizing authority and excellence.
Features:
Central Jewel Suspension:
The Grand Collarette is designed with a reinforced suspension point at its lowest center to securely display the jewel of Grand Office or rank. The jewel itself typically denotes the wearer’s specific position within Grand Council, such as Grand Master, Grand Secretary, or Past Grand Officer.
Lining:
The interior is lined with smooth satin or silk, typically in a dark shade (black or deep green), ensuring comfort during wear and providing additional structure to maintain the collarette’s shape.
Fastening:
The collarette fastens discreetly at the back with a hook-and-eye or adjustable clasp system, allowing for a secure and comfortable fit regardless of neck size.
Symbolism:
The emerald green color evokes the AMD’s dedication to enlightenment, learning, and moral growth, key virtues embodied by those who serve at Grand Council level.
The gold edging symbolizes honor, distinction, and the light of knowledge, while its simple elegance reflects the humility and service expected of Grand Officers.
